The North Johnstone 4 Day Expedition is the Ultimate Rafting Adventure...

The 4 Day Expedition is rated in the Top 10 wilderness adventures in the world, and is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

From the exhilarating helicopter in, through 4 days of gigantic Grade 5 rapids, breathtaking scenery and unforgettable companions, to the serenity of camping 3 nights under the stars in riverside rainforest clearings, you'll never experience anything like it!!!

Renowned for its fine dining, Orpheus Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef, is now offering canapé classes for guests. Executive chef, Lance Canning says the key to success is to limit each canapé to three ingredients - contrasting colours, textures and taste. Lance demonstrates three to four examples and then it’s time for the guests to create their own culinary delights. Think Crispy tamarind duck breast on an Asian pancake with snow peas, Roaring forties blue toasted walnut and apple wonton or Smoked salmon chevre and fried capper roulade.

Say goodbye to the well loved Horizon at Mission Beach. Previously known as ‘The Horizon’, the new owners of the recently renamed ‘Elandra’, Katrina Knowles and Adam Karras, are committed to a long term vision of rolling out glamorous, sophisticated and eclectic boutique hotels around the world.

The Elandra (translates as an aboriginal name for ‘home by the sea’) Mission Beach in Tropical North Queensland will be the very first.

The new Elandra will open 1 June 2008 (from 1 May – 31 May will still be The Horizon) and to celebrate will stage one of the most sought after party invitations of the year.

The Elandra Mission Beach is preparing for its night of nights on Saturday 28 June 2008. The exclusive poolside event celebrates the launch of its newly renovated four and a half star resort, new brand and performance by none other than Grace Jones. Elandra Director, Katrina Knowles has been working tirelessly with her partner, Mr Adam Karras to realize this dream of a boutique hotel resort chain. Katrina’s property development background from her family business, The Knowles Group, together with her career as a Broadway dancer and international traveler has educated her perfectly for her new role!

The first of many, The Elandra is situated on an incredible site, literally where the pristine prehistoric rainforest meets the sea, The Elandra boasts a jaw dropping location, overlooking Dunk and Bedarra Island and is conveniently located at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef in Mission Beach.

Rare pieces of sought after tribal art are being integrated into a cool minimal white interior with plenty of added ‘schooz’ by flamboyant Melbourne interior designer, Jean Pierre Heurteau. The overall effect is bound to be an intoxicating sensory overload particularly when it is incorporated with the local flora and fauna, blue Ulysses butterflies as large as dinner plates, curious bilbies, monitor lizards and colourful cassowaries.

Mission Beach is one of those lazy, idyllic little locales you always knew existed along the north Queensland coast, you just didn't know exactly where. If you need respite from crowds, stress, and having to get dressed for dinner, you'll find it just 90 minutes drive south from Cairns.

Hugging the coast for about 15km, Mission Beach takes in a handful of villages from Garners Beach in the north to Kennedy Bay in the south. Along the stretch is sleepy Bingil Bay, Mission Beach proper, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach. You'll find a range of low key, low rise accommodation, shopping and restaurants, access to rainforests, beautiful beaches, and the Family group of islands. And the only traffic jams will be caused by cassowaries crossing. The rainforests surrounding Mission are famous for being one of the few areas the large endangered native birds are still found. Prominent signs warn of the possibility of encountering them and be warned, they dash out of the greenery with little dalliance.
